Luis A. Mejia, Ph.D., Director Regulatory and Scientific Affairs, manages the global regulatory affairs agenda for human and animal health and nutrition and is responsible for global regulatory approval for novel food and feed innovations. He also represents ADM in several trade and international organizations.
Before joining ADM in 2001, Dr. Mejia worked at Kellogg Co. in a variety of positions, most recently as Senior Director–Global Nutrition. He has served as consultant to international organizations in the area of human nutrition, particularly food
fortification, and works with foreign food and agriculture organizations on regulatory harmonization and food safety. He has held positions as Professor and Chairman–Department of Nutrition, Research Center for Food and Development in Mexico, and Scientist of the Division of Nutrition and Health, Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama. He has also served as member of the External Scientific Advisory Committee of the Division of Nutritional Sciences and of the College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Sciences of the University of Illinois.
Dr. Mejia holds a Ph.D. in nutrition science from the University of California-Davis, an M.A. in biological sciences from California State University, and a B.A. in biological sciences from Sacramento State College. He has authored more than 40 articles and more than 100 abstracts in the area of food and nutrition, particularly on iron, vitamin A, field assessment of nutritional status, and food fortification. Dr. Mejia is an active member of the American Society for Nutrition (ASN), the ASN International Nutrition Council, and the Institute of Food Technologists.
